7 Best GoPro Helmet Mounts

With so many options in GoPro helmet mounts, you might need a little help in choosing the best of the best. Which ones are truly worth the money? Which ones will help you capture great POV footage?

We’ve put together a list of our favorites. We’ll start with mounts that are designed specifically for helmets, and then we’ll move into multipurpose mounts that can be attached to all sorts of bikes, boards, and bumpers for great point-of-view filming.

Let’s get started!

Best GoPro helmet mounts

Thinking about another brand? Here are the best motorcycle helmet cameras.

GoPro Helmet Mounts

1. GoPro Helmet Front + Side Mount

  • Brand: GoPro
  • Mounting Location: Front, side
  • Mounting Method: Adhesive
  • Price: Check current price on Amazon and GoPro
  • Pros: Durable, adjustable, easy to use, comes with all necessary mounting tools
  • Cons: Adhesive mount is permanent
  • Material: Polycarbonate
  • Compatible With: All GoPro cameras

When looking for a GoPro helmet mount, the GoPro Helmet Front + Side Mount is a good choice!

For starters, it can be secured to either the front or side of your helmet. It attaches with a sticky adhesive that can withstand everything from rainy days to high-speed motorcycle winds, so you don’t have to worry about it falling off.

As for the base plate, it holds your GoPro camera with the help of a mounting buckle and thumb screw. Both of these things are included with your order, so you can get started as soon as you open the box.

This helmet mount can be aimed and adjusted to your exact specifications. It’s made with a swivel mount that can rotate in multiple directions, so you never have to worry about missing a great shot while you’re on the go.

The only real drawback of this adhesive mount is that if you have a vented helmet with a lot of open space, there might not be room for a camera mount. And it’s adhesive – make it a permanent addition to your helmet.

All things considered, however, the GoPro Helmet Mount is a worthwhile investment in terms of GoPro accessories. It does what it needs to do, and it won’t be difficult to use.

2. Surewo Motorcycle Helmet Chin Mount

  • Brand: Surewo
  • Mounting Location: Chin
  • Mounting Method: Adhesives and sticky pads
  • Price: Check current price on Amazon and eBay
  • Pros: Adjustable joints, waterproof adhesives, works with both flat and curved surfaces, comes with safety tether
  • Cons: Not the most durable. And the adhesive mount is permanent
  • Material: Plastic
  • Compatible With: All GoPro cameras

One of the best things about the Surewo Motorcycle Helmet Chin Mount is that it doesn’t make you choose between flat and curved mounts. It offers sticky pads for both surfaces, so if you have multiple helmets for multiple family members or activity types, you can choose the right adhesive for that particular helmet.

Four joints are connected by a screw that can be adjusted at will, and each joint will give you a 180° rotation from its chin-based mount. Whether you’re blazing ahead on the trail or shooting footage of the landscape you’ve left behind, this product can help you get the job done.

You might want to take extra measures to secure your camera to your helmet if you plan on roaring down the freeway at 100 miles per hour. This mount includes a tether with every order!

3. GoPro Vented Helmet Strap

  • Brand: GoPro
  • Mounting Location: Top
  • Mounting Method: Strap
  • Price: Check current price on Amazon and GoPro
  • Pros: Easy to use, one size fits most helmets
  • Cons: Lacks special features
  • Material: Fabric strap
  • Compatible With: All GoPro cameras

Not every camera mount will work with vented helmets. As we’ve mentioned, some of them lack the space or structure for things like adhesive mounting pads. However, you don’t have to give up on your dreams of POV footage just because you own a vented helmet! The GoPro Vented Helmet Strap is here to answer your prayers.

The GoPro Vented Helmet Strap is exactly what it sounds like: a strap that goes around vented helmets.

It’s small and lightweight so that it won’t take up a lot of room on the helmet’s surface area, and it won’t interfere with the breathability that you’ve got going with your headgear. One size will fit most helmets, and the strap is adjustable to ensure the perfect fit. The strap weaves in and out of the vented openings.

The GoPro Vented Helmet Strap will also provide easy access to your camera if you want to double-check your footage in the middle of a ride. Just press a quick toggle button to release it into your awaiting hands.

It isn’t a fancy mounting device. It’s one of the simplest products on this list. But who says that complicated designs are always better? Sometimes, a straightforward strap is all you need to take great photos and videos.

4. Pro Standard Super Visor Helmet Mount (Race Legal)

  • Brand: Pro Standard
  • Mounting Location: Under the visor
  • Mounting Method: Adhesive
  • Price: Check current price on Amazon and ProStandard
  • Pros: Safe, low-profile, compatible with all amounts of helmet curvature
  • Cons: Not the most durable – mounted to a flimsy part of the helmet.
  • Material: Plastic resin
  • Compatible With: Most GoPro cameras

The Pro Standard Super Visor GoPro Helmet Mount is secured under the breakaway visor of racing helmets. It can be fitted to flat, curved, and peaked visors, so it’s a great multipurpose tool.

Speaking of footage, the Pro Standard Super Visor Helmet Mount is seven millimeters lower than traditional GoPro visor mounts; this is one of the reasons why it’s advertised as a “low-profile” mount.

Not only will it provide a unique perspective for your camera, but it will also reduce the amount of dirt that comes flying toward your lens to ruin your shots.

Last but certainly not least, this GoPro helmet mount is legal for most major racing events. It conforms to the safety standards of the UCI since it will break away from your helmet in the event of a crash. This makes it ultra-safe for BMX, ATV, and MTB racing.

If you want to document your races and performances with a POV camera, this mount by Pro Standard is a stable choice.

5. Proshot Helmet Cam Mounting System

  • Brand: Proshot
  • Mounting Location: Chin
  • Mounting Method: Velcro
  • Price: Check current price.
  • Pros: Tough, durable, secure straps, red positioning light
  • Cons: Not adjustable
  • Material: Plastic/velcro
  • Compatible With: Most GoPro cameras

The Proshot Helmet Cam Mounting System uses a special type of Velcro that snaps into place rather than just sticking to its own fibers. In addition to being a much stronger method of attachment, it also provides better stability for your camera footage. Shakiness can ruin even the coolest of videos, but with this mount, vibrations will be limited.

Another nice thing about this helmet mounting system is that it uses a blinking red light to show you when it’s in position. This might sound like a simple feature, but most mounts don’t offer it, so you can lose your camera in the middle of the woods and not even notice. With this product, however, if the camera falls out of place, the red light will let you know immediately.

If you’re ready to take some awesome POV footage with a GoPro helmet mount, consider the Proshot Helmet Cam Mounting System. It isn’t the most high-tech item on the market, but it’s a stable one, and you can get years of use from it if you take good care of its parts.

7. Hooshion Extendable Helmet Mount Adapter

  • Brand: Hooshion
  • Mounting Location: Top
  • Mounting Method: Clamp / Screws
  • Price: Check current price.
  • Pros: Simple, tough, fits any pole of a certain size
  • Cons: Pole not included
  • Material: Aluminum
  • Compatible with: All GoPro cameras

We’re cheating a little. This isn’t a traditional helmet mount. However, it’s such a cool product that it’s worth a second look if you’re researching different ways to take POV footage!

The Hooshion Extendable Helmet Mount Adapter is meant to be used with a monopod or extension pole. It’s the device that will hold these accessories in place while they hold your camera. You can attach any pole or tube that measures between 15 – 13 millimeters; just slide it into the adapter’s opening and tighten the screws until it’s clamped into place.

Do you want to take wide-angle footage of a rodeo or bull-riding event? Are you hoping to capture every inch of the sunset as you hike up a mountain or jump out of a plane? You’ll need more than just a regular helmet mount: A monopod and a mount adapter.

While the Hooshion Extendable Helmet Mount Adapter won’t help with the former, it will provide everything that you require for the latter.

Other POV Mounts (Off-Helmet)

Chest: GoPro Chest Mount Harness

  • Brand: GoPro
  • Mounting Location: Chest
  • Mounting Method: Straps
  • Pros: Strong, simple, adjustable, waterproof
  • Cons: Lower POV than helmet mounts
  • Material: Unknown
  • Compatible With: All GoPro cameras

The GoPro Chest Mount Harness can be used for hands-free footage of any outdoor activity.

And this harness doesn’t require any special setup. There’s no drilling or cutting.

Just shrug it over your shoulders and go! It’s compatible with most cameras, including all of the GoPro cameras so you can use it with multiple types of recording equipment as well.

It’s this kind of flexibility that makes this chest mount one of the nicest GoPro accessories on the market. It might not be expensive or elaborate, but it was built with comfort and convenience, so it’s worth a second look.

Shoulder Mount

A solid shoulder mount for your camera is a great alternative to a helmet-mounted camera.

Here are some more shoulder mounting options.

Handlebar: GoPro Handlebar/Seatpost/Pole Mount

  • Brand: GoPro
  • Mounting Location: General use
  • Mounting Method: Screws
  • Price: Check current price on BestBuy.
  • Pros: Swivel technology, non-slip design, fits a variety of tubes and bars
  • Cons: Lower POV than helmet mounts
  • Material: Metal / plastic
  • Compatible With: All GoPro cameras

The GoPro Handlebar/Seatpost/Pole Mount can be attached to any tube, rod or pole that measures between 9 – 35 millimeters. This means that you can put it on everything from the handlebars of your child’s bicycle to an extension pole used during an extreme mountain summit.

Additionally, it’s made with a non-slip design. Long poles aren’t always stable, which can happen when using this mount as well; it might result in some shaky camera footage. However, it tries hard to eliminate shakes and vibrations with its non-slip materials that hold your camera in place.

How NOT to Lose Your Camera: Tethers

One final thought. No helmet mount is perfect. And you could lose your camera if your mount fails. I recommend that you always use a tether as a failsafe.

See this 4 pack of steel GoPro tethers on Amazon.

They are not expensive and will pay for themselves many times  – even if a mount only fails once. Not to mention the peace of mind they give, every time you head out on an adventure.
