DJI Camera Release Dates: Action, Osmo, Pocket (All 7 Models)

With so many DJI action cameras available, it can be hard to keep track of things. Here are the release dates for all current and past DJI action cameras – including the Osmo and Pocket lines.

The newest DJI action camera is the Osmo Action 4. It was released in August 2023. The newest DJI Pocket camera is the Pocket 2, with the new Pocket 3 model likely released in fall 2023. Here are all DJI camera release dates.

I’ve included the Action and Pocket camera lines by DJI in this chart. While the Pocket cameras aren’t waterproof, you can use the waterproof case – making them quite similar to a typical action camera. And these seven cameras represent every handheld camera made by DJI.

I own the three newest DJI action cameras (in addition to the Mini 2 drone).

DJI Action Camera Release Dates by Model

Here are the release dates for each model. This list covers all 7 DJI handheld camera models.

DJI Osmo Action 5 (Pending)

The new Osmo Action 5 will likely be released in August 2024.

Their release schedule has been once per year for the last 3 Action models. And by releasing in August, they get to scoop the new GoPro release in September.

DJI Pocket 3 (Pending)

The new Pocket 3 camera will likely be released in the fall of 2023.

It’s been almost three years since the release of the Pocket 2. And the Pocket 3 was rumored to have an April 2023 release date which appears to have been given to the new Inspire 3 drone.

DJI Osmo Action 4

The Osmo Action 4 is the newest action camera in DJI’s lineup. It was released on August 2, 2023.

DJI Osmo Action 3

The Osmo Action 3 was released on September 14, 2022. This was considered to be the first solid competitor to the GoPro lineup.

DJI Action 2

The Action 2 was released on October 27, 2021.

It is the anomaly in the action camera lineup. It has a modular design, and it dropped the Osmo branding.

I really like the design – I can use both modules (camera and battery/screen) or the camera alone depending on the setting.

DJI Pocket 2

The Pocket 2 by DJI was released on November 1, 2020.

This is the second in the Pocket camera line. Like the original, it comes with a handle and electronic gimbal stabilizer. In this model, DJI dropped the Osmo branding.

DJI Osmo Action

The original Osmo Action camera was released on May 15, 2019.

The appearance has varied very little with the release of the Osmo Action 3 and Osmo Action 4 models.

DJI Osmo Pocket

The original Osmo Pocket camera was released on December 15, 2018.

This is DJI’s first step into handheld cameras.
