Once you find your serial number, reference the chart above. Every model has a unique code, with the same opening 3-4 digits.
Why doesn’t my GoPro have a serial number?
Good question. Either someone removed it. Or it’s a fake. I’ve read reports of both things happening.
But it seems that a knockoff GoPro is the most likely thing.

Your Turn
Did you find your serial code? Is your GoPro without a serial code? I would love to hear from you. Let me know below!
Hi, great article. I was wondering how to check the manufacture date by serial number as i own a gph7b but would also like to buy a h4s. There was however a broad issue with earlier models of both the hero 4 silver and black where you would get a terrible chopping noise in the background of your playback if the footage was recorded with wifi on via the app. This would be extremely useful in deciding on a purchase before going ahead and risk buying one of the earlier faulty models. I owned a new hero 4 silver with this issue and after jumping through many hoops and 2 replacement cameras later being shipped out by gopro i finally received a working one. Would there be any way of confirming this? I have contacted gopro support and fairly enough i didn’t expect them to be of much help considering i was planning on a 2nd hand purchase which would not be in their interest but this info must be available somewhere?
You say complete list, but my SN is C3151… Don’t see that on here.
Interesting. Do you know what model you have? Is it an older model?
Me too. No idea what model mine is but it’s also C315…
I’m assuming it’s an early version of the Hero 5 Blackwhich is C316… but that’s a guess.
@Bryan Haines, it’s a 2016 HERO+ LCD
On my GoPro, I believe the serial # is printed on the back and it is C3111026363124. This does not match any of the examples shown on this site. It also shows a Reg# HWBL1 CHDHA-301. There is no battery access door but the back does pry off and the battery is accessable that way. I purchased this camera as a refurbished camera. Is this a knock off GoPro?
From what I can tell, the model number of CHDHA-301 refers to the GoPro Hero (released in September 2014). This is an entry level camera and was released at the same time as the Hero4 (Black and Silver). This wasn’t a popular model and there isn’t much written about this camera. The serial numbering (311…) is sequential to the Hero4 Black (312…), Hero4 Silver (313…) that released at the same time.
It probably isn’t a knockoff – it’s a classic.
I have a couple of GoPro Hero reusable wrist cameras – still in original packaging and marked (c) 2005 Woodman Labs Inc.
Are they worth anything?
Maybe, I haven’t heard of many collectors, but I’m sure there are some. Sorry I can’t help with current values.
My Hero + has a serial number starting with C319102——-.
I didn’t see any serial number that matched, any help would be appreciated.
Mahalo,
Keoni
I have the Go Pro with the 3111 start of the serial # where can i get a charge cord for it
I invested into a Go Pro 11 Black, bought all the gear, right SD Cards. All brand through Go Pro. In Video recording, Go Pro failed to deliver a stable product. Under test in an indoor environment at 77 degree ambient temperature. The Go Pro 11 continue to fail at around 15 to 17 minutes. Using Manufacture recommended SD Cards, replacement batteries, and filming at high Quality Video Rates. I document each heat cycle. Worked with Go Pro Technical Support. The sent batteries back, waited for replacement battery. Support extended my 30 day purchase date for full return because they could not over night the replacement battery. Go Pro Black 11 failed to provide dependable recorder. I bought the camera expressly for the High Quality Video Recording and Other accessories to embrace a compact professional platform. As a result of my testing , Support offered to extend the warranty of the camera, I RMA the product back for a credit on just the Camera purchase but was stuck paying for the cost of the largest approved SD Card and other add on hardware. What a Waste of my time and money. My recommendations, if you bought one, return it. You will probably miss that awesome shot because the Go Pro will go thermal overload when you need it the most. Return it within the 30 days, do not let Tech get you out pass that return deadline. Buy something that works you will happy you when you captured that shot you missed with the Go Pro. Have a good day and a better tomorrow…
